Loaves and Fishes Volunteer Projects

On September 26, 2019, thirteen members from the Palisades Women’s Club volunteered their time and energy to a worthy cause, Loaves & Fishes. Members either met in the club house parking lot to carpool or joined us at Loaves and Fishes, 648 Griffith Rd, Charlotte.  We volunteer from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM.

If you’re not familiar with this nonprofit organization here’s a brief history. It was founded in 1975 by a handful of people who recognized the growing hunger needs of people in our community. Loaves & Fishes mission is to provide nutritionally balanced groceries for a week, free of charge for those facing economic hardships.

Once our members of volunteers arrive at Loaves and Fishes, we are given the tasks of sorting canned goods and boxing up crates. Members work together to prepare these crates to go to local food pantries. It’s a team effort and in no time our tasks are complete. We leave with a sense of purpose and pride.

After volunteering the group goes out to lunch. On this day, we went to Rooster’s Wood-Fired Kitchen – South Park. This gave us the opportunity to chat and get to know more about each other. We also had a special guest who volunteered and enjoyed lunch with us. It’s also his third time volunteering, Mr. John Peach, 89 years young.  John is the father of Kim Bougie, who organized today’s event and took pictures.  Mr. Peach entertained us all with his quick wit and sense of humor. Everyone enjoyed a nice lunch.

Once a month our members have the opportunity to volunteer.  If you would like volunteer for Loaves and Fishes, RSVP: Jody Getson at  jnjashnc@yahoo.com  (203) 685-4111.
